It is interesting to note that when God made the covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob he also included the wives of the Patriarchs. This is apparent in the word “Israel” as the letters of Israel are an acronym of all six names. Remember Hebrew is read right to left. Notice the first Hebrew letters of each of their names make up the letters in the name יִשְׂרָאֵל (Israel).
יִ – יִצְחָק – Yitshak – Isaac
יִ – יַעֲקֹב – Ya’aqov – Jacob
שָׂ – שָׂרָה – Sarah – Sara
רִ- רִבְקָה – Rivká – Rebecca
רִ -רָחֵל – Rakhel – Rachel
אַ – אַבְרָהָם – Avraham – Abraham
לֵ – לֵאָה – Le’a – Leah
Not only would Abraham be called the Father of Nations (Gen. 17:5) but also Sarah would be called the mother of the nations.
I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” Gen. 17:16
This proclamation is reminiscent of Eve being called the mother of all life in whom we are all unified.
And Adam named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all the living. Gen. 3:20
As the righteous in Christ from the nations enter into the covenant may we all learn to love and appreciate our adoption and call our forefathers and foremothers blessed.
Unite us Lord as one family.
