Psalms 139:30 (you created my inmost being) actually discloses that it is God that knits together our gift of His spirit breath and our unique soul (that is the inner most parts of our being) inter-connecting them to our physical body. This is where the pro-choice people get it wrong. True – the body is simply substance and matter, but the transcendent spirit life of God and one’s distinctive soul are now capable of emotions and experience – even in the womb! God is present in gestation literally and mystically weaving the spirit, soul and body inside the mother’s womb.
The soul contains within it one’s will, emotions and philosophies to live by. It starts out very self-oriented. It gets frustrated with the limitations of the body and the naiveté of the mind. It longs for peace, happiness and understanding but is quite inadequate in determining how to achieve it.
A Veil Within the Heart of Man
Your soul is contained within your body. That is how it gets carried about. So, it controls the body, determining when it will eat or sleep. It wills the body to come or go, rest or work. The soul is very complex and was designed to live forever so therefore when the material body dies the soul must bind to the spirit to continue to exist. The question becomes, “Is the spirit of the dying person Godly or ungodly?” If one’s spirit belongs to God, then the soul will return to God along with the spirit. But if the soul has never invited the Holy Spirit to enter into the “spirit compartment” but rather entertained evil and led a selfish sinful life then the soul departs and goes with the evil spirit into eternal separation from God.
The soul must be trained correctly. Because it is selfish, it must choose to submit to the spirit from God. It either operates in the needs of the carnal nature or it hears the distant call of God and submits to the will of the Spirit. When the soul defers to the Holy Spirit, a veil is lifted to the heart and mind of God. Joy and peace flood the soul giving one a new birth and a desire to live in the peaceful ways of the Holy Spirit.
The Veil of Separation in the Temple
The Temple was a sacred place protected also by a veil of separation as well. A Veil that was actually torn apart when Yeshua died on the cross taking upon Himself the wages for the sins of the entire world.
The function of the veil in the Temple was two-fold. It was there to separate the “common and profane” from the Glory of the Holiness of God and to act as a barrier for the judgement on sin that was rampant on man’s side of the veil.
When the Messiah paid the price for our sinful nature and our transgressions– judgement was rendered upon Himself and the Torah’s charges against the penitent were paid on the cross, therefore, the Holy Judge did not have to hold back His judgement any longer – He could now look upon His creation that He loved. Judgement was rendered on Yeshua who took the sins of the world, the veil was torn – separation was lifted.
The Temple veil was there for man’s benefit – to protect him from destruction. Exodus 26:33 Says “The veil shall separate the holy place from the most holy for you.” A special protocol was prescribed for the only time each year that one man (The High Priest) could enter on behalf of God’s covenant people to offer sacrifice.
Lev. 21- says that no man with a deformity could come near the veil. This is symbolic and means that mere mankind (covered in blemishes symbolizing sin) cannot stand before the perfect Holy God.
By this harsh word picture, The Bible is teaching us that Sin separates us from God and the veil mercifully separates us from His holy judgement.
But Moses found favor in God – Moses was a picture of the Messiah – the one that could come near on behalf of the people – into the very presence of God. Moses would talk to God face to face as his face would reflect the glory of God like how the moon reflects the light of the sun. However, the people were uncomfortable seeing the light of God on Moses’ face. Looking at Moses, they felt the weight of their sin – exposed, intimidated and ashamed so they insisted that Moses wear a veil.
Thank God we have a high priest, Yeshua, that was able to appease the judgment of God and remove the veil between our sinful soul thereby opening the way to stand justified before a Holy God.
2 Corinthians 3 tells us
Whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (there is no separation). 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
Yeshua is the way. He is the veil between man and God – the advocate that stands in between. The Holy Judge must look through the veil, the bloodied Savior –in order to look at us. It is then we can boldly stand before God in the judgment. In essence Heb 6 tell us we have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul (The soul which He knits or anchors to His Holy Spirit) whereby we can now enter the Inner Place behind the veil. The Word goes on to say Yeshua has entered for us as a forerunner (vs. 20).
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6
He was the shredded veil – torn – removed.
We have confidence for entering the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He dedicated for us through the veil that is His flesh. Hebrews 10:19,20
We Will Behold Our God!
On this mountain (Mt Tzion), He will swallow up
the shroud that enfolds all peoples,
the veil that spread over all nations.
8 He will swallow up death forever.
my Lord Adonai will wipe away tears from every face.
He will remove His people’s reproach from all the earth.
For Adonai has spoken.
9 It will be said in that day:
“Behold, this is our God – Is 23:7-9
Yes, fellow believer – one day when your body is destroyed, your soul along with your spirit will return to God before His holy Presence. Thank you, Yeshua, for being the way!
